On October 10, the inhabitants of the camp on the banks of the Garonne received a summons to the administrative court following a request from the prefecture asking for their expulsion. The hearing, which will take place on Tuesday, October 18, will be able to contradict them to leave the premises within 72 hours when no relocation proposal has been made.
Following a request for interim measures from the prefectures of Haute-Garonne and the Occitanie region, around a hundred people, mostly families with children, are threatened with eviction from their makeshift camp located on Boulevard des Récollets, in Toulouse.
According to the association Utopia 56 : “ Many residents defend pathologies that dispense with a regular doctor. 19 children are in school and 6 are awaiting assignment in connection with the Relay Teachers of the Saint Joseph school. »
Since November 2021, the number of people seeking refuge there has continued to grow, going from around ten homeless people to around a hundred today, while in Toulouse 29,000 homes have been vacant for less than two years, and that there have been 4,000 empty homes for more than 2 years..
If the prefecture claims the danger of the floods of the Garonne to evict the camp, it is indeed the political will not to offer a housing solution to these people which placed them in this precarious and dangerous situation.
In fact, despite the large number of vacant homes, no rehousing offer has been made to these families. Their expulsion, during the school year and with the approach of winter, would be criminal and would lead to even greater precariousness and instability for each of the families present in the camp, adding to the almost immediate creation of a new camp. A new proof of the hypocrisy of the prefecture, will cause to hide the consequences of its racist and xenophobic policy, by pushing the misery even more on the margins of the city.
This request for expulsion is in line with that pronounced on September 20, 2022 with regard to unaccompanied foreign minors, who have been camping along the Jules Guesde alleys since their expulsion from a former nursing home this summer. Some were rehoused individually against their demand for collective rehousing, and in very unequal conditions, sometimes far from Toulouse. A division that tries to break their mobilization and prevent their academic, administrative and medical follow-up. Many of them remain today without a proposal for rehousing, and new young people are put on the street every week following the arbitrary and racist sorting they will undergo during the minority assessments carried out by the department via the DDAEOMI
Again, the department, the prefecture and the town hall are main in hand to expel and repress, in line with the xenophobic and racist offensive of the government. We let us therefore join the call for a gathering of DAL 31, Doctors of the World Midi-Pyrenees delegation and Utopia 56.
Before the interprofessional demonstration for wages, pensions and the right to strike, go to the Administrative Court of Toulouse on Tuesday, October 18 at 10 a.m. to demand not only the cancellation of this eviction but also a permanent rehousing solution. adapted to the needs and wishes of families! A gathering that is all the more essential as the fight against the government’s xenophobic and racist offensive must be linked to the broader fight against anti-social attacks, at a time when the possibility of building a real balance of power against the government is opening up. with the strikes in progress!
