Toulouse Métropole is taking new measures to “boost the climate plan”
Sixty-one new bars and twenty-three amplified bars. Toulouse Métropole wants to “boost its climate plan” which, last January, was deemed “insufficient” by some environmental associations. Jean-Luc Moudenc encountered two main measures among the complementary actions of the Territorial Climate-Air-Energy Plan of Toulouse Métropole (PCAET): “the installation of 600 electric charging stations on the metropolitan territory by the end of 2023” instead of a hundred currently and “the establishment of an endowment fund of 10 million euros for municipalities to help them accelerate their projects concerning ecological transition”.
All dimensions of the ecological transition are retained (energy sobriety, more sustainable mobility, more circular economy, etc.). We should also note a “rainwater management master plan”, a new phase “of the plan for carbon-free delivery of the last mile in town” or even “support for restaurants to aim for zero waste”.
A GHG reduction trajectory revised upwards
“On an objective of 40% reduction in greenhouse gases (GHG) over the period 2008-2030, we were on a trajectory of 9% in January and, with these additional measures, we are heading towards -25%. Regarding the drop in energy expenditure, we were at -4%, we can hope to reach -14% on an initial target of -20%, ”estimates the president of Toulouse Métropole. “You have to realize that it is not easy to make such efforts in the face of a population that is constantly growing. Citizens and businesses must also do their part,” says Jean-Luc Moudenc. In addition, the mayor of Toulouse clarified that part of the measures of the energy plan announces that the last week could last in the Pink City, in particular with regard to “the drop in heating temperature in certain public places”.
In terms of transition, other announcements will be made in the coming months, in particular “a plan for refreshing the city in summer” to make “more bearable periods of heat waves” such as those experienced in 2022. Several projects are under study (stretched canvas, revegetation, etc.) in particular for the Place du Capitole. Because of the underground car park, “everything is not possible on this special place in the heart of Toulouse. We need installations that do not weigh too much, ”recalls the city councilor.
