Strikes and demonstration in Toulouse: what to expect this Tuesday?
A new interprofessional day of strikes and demonstrations will be held on Tuesday 18 October. In Toulouse, the start of the demonstration is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the War Memorial (François Verdier). The rate of strikers should be high in schools, and at the SNCF.
The social return had started timidly, on September 29, with 6,000 demonstrators in the streets of Toulouse, according to the unions. Will this figure reach this Tuesday, October 18, when the demonstration, at the call of an inter-union CGT-FO-FSU-Solidaires, will leave the War Memorial at 2 p.m., in the direction of Arnaud-Bernard?
A demonstration between the War Memorial and Arnaud-Bernard, from 2 p.m.
The organization of this interprofessional day was decided last Thursday, and the deadline is therefore short for mobilizers. But the themes of purchasing power, compensation for inflation and opposition to the report of the retirement age, could lead several thousand people to the streets.
“Since the announcement of this new day of strike last Thursday, all sectors, public and private alike, have responded that they would mobilize, announces Cédric Caubère, departmental secretary of the CGT Haute-Garonne. Transport, Education, energy , metallurgy, aeronautics, everyone will be there, following on from September 29. There was no reaction from employers or the government. The most publicized sector is the refineries, but everyone is mobilized to increasing purchasing power and against pension reform.”
Minimum reception service set up by the town hall of Toulouse
In education, just over 13% of school, college and high school staff were on strike on September 29, according to the rectorate. In Toulouse, the strike had resulted in the closure of 29 of the city’s 210 nursery and primary schools. And in 95 schools, the rate of striking teachers exceeded 25%.
This Tuesday, the town hall of Toulouse met again in place a minimum reception service. Meals will be delivered to schools. Two sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., for pupils who cannot be accommodated in their nursery school: the Galia Kindergarten school (5 Cambert route), and the Maourine Kindergarten school (11 av. Bourgès Maunoury)
Call for a strike in schools, colleges and high schools, where 13% of staff were on strike on September 29
“For this Tuesday, the visibility is low, because our colleagues, in the first degree (elementary and nursery schools), had a deadline of 48 hours, that is to say until Saturday evening to declare themselves. But there will be strikers, c “is certain, and colleagues will be present at the event. The revaluation of the index point, of only 3.5%, is ridiculously low compared to inflation”, explains Pascale Ballereau, departmental secretary of Snudi-FO. At Snuipp-FSU, the first union of school teachers, the watchword is mobilization, to “refuse the reforms aimed at reducing the income of employees for the benefit of companies: teacher pact, pension reform, reform of the ‘unemployment insurance’.
Against the reform of vocational high schools, for purchasing power, catching up with the index point
In the high schools of Haute-Garonne, the National High School Movement (MNL) calls for a strike and the blockade of establishments. Emphasis will be placed in particular on the reform of vocational high schools. “At the Bellevue high school (Toulouse), we distribute our leaflets at the exit of the high school, from Monday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday morning we will declare our high school “dead high school” and will intervene in front of the high school at 10 a.m. gathering from 1:30 p.m. And we will join the inter-union procession after 2 p.m. to march under the same banner of professional high schools on strike,” explains Myriam Martin, representative of the CGT Educ’Action.
At the SNCF, the disturbances began on Monday, October 17, and continue this Tuesday
At the SNCF, the disturbances began this Monday, October 17 in the morning, on the Toulouse-Latour de Carol and Toulouse-Pau axes, as well as Auch-Toulouse. This Tuesday, October 18, these disturbances were to be prolonged, in particular at the call of the CGT and Sud Rail, which are demanding an increase in wages at the SNCF, oppose the requisition by the government of the strikers from TotalEnergies and Esso- ExxonMobil, and respondent to the expansion of the mobilization on wages and purchasing power.
