Etterbeek names town hall forecourt after Mahsa Amini | Brussels
EtterbeekThe square in front of the town hall of Etterbeek is handed over to the woman.
Mahsa Amini died on September 16 in Tean above she was arrested by the Iranian vice squad for wearing ‘her headscarf in a mighty way’. This provoked a wave of indignation in the country and internationally.
As a token of indignation, the municipality of Etterbeek will name the square in front of the new town hall after her. It will temporarily be called Mahsa Amini Square, and a tarpaulin with her image would also be stretched. The initiative came from alderman Maryam Matin Far (MR), and mayor Vincent De Wolf (MR).
“In the wake of the oppression experienced by Iranian women in their country, the municipality of Etterbeek wishes to speak out against justice and show its support for women and men fighting for their freedom,” the municipality said.
