Dallemand concerned about Russia’s funding of far-right and Belgium’s role
Deputy Georges Dallemand (Les Engagés) wrote to the President of the Chamber, Eliane Tillieux (PS), in order to organize an exchange of views with representatives of the intelligence services on the massive financing of foreign political parties in the world by Russia and the role of hub that Belgium could play. A month ago, several foreign media reported information from US intelligence services that allowed Vladimir Putin’s regime to transfer 300 million dollars since 2014 to finance political parties around the world and to transfer some several hundred million more. The parties are not named but the United States would have shared its information with the countries concerned. According to a source quoted by AFP, Brussels would serve as a hub.
“The public sharing of this information highlights the major challenge posed by secret Russian political influence for democratic states”, underlines the deputy in his letter.
Mr. Dallemand would like the parliamentary follow-up committee of Committee R to hold an exchange of views in order to assess the threat on Belgian territory and the measures taken.
