For lack of better…
Three days after his crash on the ground of Trabzonspor, Monaco was able to smile again by chaining a new success in Ligue 1. Alas, the players of Philippe Clément could not do better than a draw against Clermont, this Sunday in Louis – II (1-1). It must be said that the Monegasques have really complicated the task. Guilty of having stepped on the left heel of Saîf-Eddine Khaoui, Mohamed Camara received a direct red (17e) and left his partners at ten against eleven. This major game fact had the immediate effect of stinging the Asemists and destabilizing the Auvergnats, who conceded a penalty that was avoidable to say the least a few minutes later. In the absence of Wissam Ben Yedder, replaced for tactical reasons just after the expulsion – which did not really seem to please him – Breel Embolo took his responsibilities, beating Mory Diaw in two stages (1-0, 31e).
The CF63 then began to take advantage of its numerical superiority. Already very threatening before the break, Pascal Gastien’s men put the counters back on the way back from the locker room, thanks to Komnen Andrić. Mute since the second day, the breeder of Swiss shepherds equalized with a powerful strike from the right after a save from Alexander Nübel against Khaoui (1-1, 53e). The beginning of a long attack-defense sequence? Not really. A false rhythm then set in and the 21 players only too rarely brightened up this end of the game. Result: ASM (6e) is marking time after five straight league victories but, given the face of the meeting, it has extenuating circumstances.
Clermont (8e), for its part, takes a good point if we stick to its running chart, but may perhaps regret having left the handbrake.
