An amateur player dies during a match in Belgium
During a meeting in the “Third Provincial”, counting for “the Provincial Series” (Belgian amateur football) and more frequently called “P3”, Ibrahim, a 19-year-old player, died on the meadow during a meeting , this Saturday evening, in Court-Saint-Etienne. The player, born in 2003, would have had a heart attack during the meeting. The tragedy occurred while Ibrahim was playing with the Saint-Etienne club’s reserve team, against Ittre. “I think we need to make parents aware. They could spend 50 euros for a stress test certifying that their child is fit to play in a club.revealed Benito Marchetto, general coordinator of the Saint-Etienne club.
According to Pierre Nizet, imposing a medical examination poses the problem of financing both for the families of the players and for the football clubs in the amateur world. “For some families, a euro is a euro! Everyone counts their pennies these days. Could the Federation or the ACFF (the association of French-speaking football clubs) cover these costs? But then, they would prefer to drop something else! The fact remains that to save a life, it would be necessary to be able to find the necessary budgets ” concluded the vice-president of the Saint-Etienne club. This Sunday afternoon, a tribute took place at the club in the presence of the player’s family and around 200 friends. For its part, the club published a message in tribute to Ibrahim on its Facebook page. The autopsy of the body should take place on Monday. The burial is scheduled, in principle, for this Tuesday, in Fleurus, near Charleroi.
