More than 300 high school students are without assignment in Toulouse and Haute-Garonne, according to the unions

With many courses blocked and the complexity of the orientation, the problem of university students not assigned on the first day of a new school year has (unfortunately) become commonplace, and it often takes several weeks for everything to go back to normal. .
317 high school students without assignment
But lately, we have gone down a notch and the assignment problems now concern high school students. “According to feedback from the field, 84 high school students are to date (count made on Thursday October 13, 2022, editor’s note) not affected in Upper Garonne, and 233 in vocational high school. It’s a lot, ”says Pierre Montels, coordinator of Snes 31 (National Union of Secondary School Teachers).
Specialty lessons in the viewfinder
317 non-assignments: for the unions, this phenomenon has been multiplied by two or even three compared to 2021. In their sights: high school reform activated by the former Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer (2017-2022), with the establishment of Specialty Education (EDS) and the progressive specialization of establishments.
“The cases encountered relate to students who have applied for specialties but who have not had a place in the high schools concerned and who have not been able to return to their sector high school. So today we have students who stay at home since the start of the school year. The main risk is losing some…”.
The CIPF calls for better support from students and parents
“This also poses the problem of the training map. The highway of the general way does not exist any more and of the pupils undergo their school orientation. Our role is to help people integrate this high school reform. It’s a big challenge, ”decrypts Béatrice Malleville, for the FCPE (Federation of parent-teacher councils) Occitanie.
For the FCPE, it would be necessary to help the students more in their orientation and to support the parents, “often in lack of knowledge on the sectors”.
“Our daughter found herself without any affectation”
“I never thought we could end up in this situation. If we had known, we would never have moved from the Dordogne before the summer”. Three weeks after the start of the 2022 school year, this mother of a 16-year-old student was in despair to see her daughter at home, literally out of school since her arrival in Toulouse.
“His choice was to move towards the STSS sector. We called the Rectorate during the summer to see if our file had been taken into account. The Rectorate responded positively, then nothing… At the start of the school year, our daughter found herself without any assignment. Several requests were requested in several high schools, without result. In the end, I was even ready to put her in 1st general but we were told that it was not possible “.
STMG, a clogged sector
This is the corollary of the high school reform, according to the unions, and a related problem with the non-assignment of certain high school students: channels are now clogged, a much less significant phenomenon a few years ago. This is the case of STMG (Sciences and technologies of management and management). “A lot of problems come to us because it is perceived by students and parents as very open to all profiles. It is sometimes a default orientation, which does not correspond to all young people ”, warns the FCPE Occitanie.
Contacted on this subject of the non-assignment of certain high school students, the Rectorate of Toulouse did not respond to our requests.
