The Toulouse Padel Club reaches another peak
Five years after being crowned European champions on the Place du Capitole, the people of Toulouse have triggered a new cup on the courts of Malaga.
“On paper, I think we had the most compact team in the tournament. Special mention to our two players who flew through the test.” In 2017, in the colors of the Toulouse Padel Club, Kévin Tournemire had agitated, place du Capitole, the European Cup of private clubs.
“Afterwards, in this competition, we always oscillated between 6th and 3rd place. But this year, in Malaga, the name was no longer the same, namely the Intercontinental Club Cup. On the line of Initially, there were 24 clubs, including some from North Africa and South America. For France, there was only one other club, that of Bordeaux. The formula authorized a phase of hens and a final phase. For each meeting, we had to play two men’s doubles and a women’s doubles”, explains Kévin, surrounded by Charlotte Soubrié, Nada Majdoubi, Nicolas Trancart, Benoît Theard and Thibaud Pech.
In the first phase, the Toulouse team dominated the Estonian (3-0) and Spanish (3-0) teams. In the quarter, a Senegalese team fell by the wayside (2-1). In the semis, the score was more severe against Moroccans (3-0). As for the final, the TPCa got the better of the Mexicans (2-1). “It was a good opportunity to meet foreign teams that we are not used to rubbing shoulders with. There was a great atmosphere with cultural shocks and different styles of play”, insists Kévin Tournemire.
Two national competitions will land at the TPC
After this Spanish stopover, Kévin Tournemire and the TPC will switch to organizer mode with two national competitions on the menu. “From October 21 to 23, we will host the French championships again, with a women’s draw and a men’s draw. Admission is free. On Friday and Saturday, the first matches should start around 9 a.m. As a reminder, this summer, we had already organized the French youth championships. Then, from December 9 to 11, we will host the French Interclub senior championships of National 1 (24 teams of 8 players, editor’s note), “explains Kévin Tournemire . It promises !
