Bulgaria with eight competitors at the European Weightlifting Championships in Albania
Bulgaria will be represented by 8 participants at the beginning of this Sunday in Durres European Championship for 20 and 23-year-old champions, announced the press service of the Bulgarian Weightlifting Federation. In the Albanian city, 3 girls and 5 young men will lift, led by the European champion for men from this spring, Angel Rusev, who, however, is now “climbing” in cat. 61 kg.
Once again, the players’ clubs bear the costs of the participation, after the untimely reports and successive misunderstandings of the current administration hinder the financing of the Bulgarian Federation. The situation was the same two months ago when the centers took over the expenses of our youth national teams for the European 15 and 17-year-olds in the Polish city of Rashin.
Now, in the composition for Albania, the Ruse school is again the most represented, which is half of the Bulgarian users.
Here is the Bulgarian squad for the European in Durres:
GIRLS UNDER 20:
cat. 45 kg Reni Ruseva (Ruse, with coaches Krastina and Radoslav Atanasovi)
GIRLS UNDER 23:
cat. 49 kg Nadezhda May-Nguyen (Ruse, tr. Krastina and Radoslav Atanasovi) Cat. 59 kg Galya Shatova (Karlovo, tr. Ivan Lukhov)

YOUTH UNDER 23:

At the last European event in these age groups a year ago in Rovaniemi (Finland), Bulgaria finished with an asset of 4 medals in the bouts: 2 silver (to Nadezhda May-Nguyen in cat. 49 kg and to Valentin Genchev in cat.
67 kg for the 23-year-olds) and two bronze medals (to Gabriel Marinov in the 61 kg category and to Ivan Dimov in the 67 kg category for the younger ones), and in total with those in the movements we won 11 awards – 6 silver and 5 bronze. Two years ago, at the championship in Bucharest, Bulgaria won 17 medals, five of which in
the fights: Angel Rusev, Bozhidar Andreev and Hristo Hristov were European champions, Stilyan Grozdev took silver and Valentin Genchev – bronze.
The five took three awards each in their categories, to them Maria-Magdalena Kireva added a silver, and Vasil Marinov a bronze in the throwing. Out of 13 of our competitors, 12 were in the top six.
