Today we discussed important issues: the first – the proposal of the new strategic concept of deterrence and defence, and the second – the operations of NATO and the EU. This was stated by the Acting Minister of Defense Dimitar StoyanovDimitar Stoyanov was born on October 28, 1968 in Svilengrad. In 1986, he graduated before the media after the meeting of the defense ministers of the countries of the NATO countries.
All about the topic:
Russian invasion of Ukraine 7607
“On the first topic, I can happily state that Bulgaria has started implementing the strategy itself, keeping in mind the multinational battle group. By a decision of the Council of Ministers in May, Italy was designated as a framework country, and Bulgaria remained as the host country. We expect the ceremony of transfer of the so-called to be completed on October 17th. a framework country to Italy,” he shared.
The minister informed that our country has confirmed the answers to our participation in KFOR, UFOR and Altea – that is the mission in Kosovo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the mission in Iraq: “We paid attention to the Altea mission – it is of particular importance, considering that we have over 100 military personnel. There should be a UN resolution to continue the mission, at least we expect that.”
“We signed a letter of intent for the European Sky Shield – it’s a system of military-based air defense systems. We hope to continue this initiative on a regular basis, because I think it is extremely important for Bulgaria. There are no specifically selected systems, but there are some in the US and Israel. The good thing is that we want to do it in Europe as well, and for Bulgaria to participate with a part of the production – software or mechanical, that is yet to be discussed,” he added.
“The national security risk is currently Russia, but there is no direct threat of involving our country in a military conflict. Any attack by another country against Bulgaria will immediately violate the fifth article of the Washington Treaty. Hardly any country will have reasons, including Russia,” he believes.
He commented on Bulgaria’s intervention in the case of the explosion of the Crimean bridge with the words: “The fact that someone interprets what is happening in a foreign country and Bulgaria’s intervention as the reason for this is not a direct threat. The whole case is to discredit Bulgaria, nothing else. The hybrid attack is visible and the result is accurately presented to our country in a bad way.”
