PandemicStill more cases of Covid in Luxembourg
LUXEMBOURG – The fall rebound of Covid-19 is confirmed in Luxembourg, where four people died in connection with the virus during the previous week.
While the WHO transmits its level of alert linked to Covid-19, the number of infections continues to increase in European countries. Luxembourg is not spared by this rebound expected at the beginning of autumn, indicates the retrospective of the Ministry of Health transmitted Thursday evening. Within a week, the number of new cases (3,004 in total) fell by almost 30%, while reinfections (1,246) increased by 42%.
All age groups are affected by the increase in the incidence rate to 465 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with the exception of children aged 5 to 9 years. Among the warning signs, a 115% increase in incidence among the very old (90 years and over) as well as +66% among 85-89 year olds. Remember that these people are more likely to develop serious forms.
Four new deaths
At the hospital, 26 new admissions of Covid patients have been listed in one week, but only one is in intensive care. Four people have died in connection with the virus. The average age of deceased patients was 69 years.
“Given the current rise in the number of Covid cases and the uncertain situation before winter, it would not be appropriate to declare the end of the pandemic,” said Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said on Thursday, adding that “the tunnel is still dark, with many obstacles that could cause us to stumble if we are not careful”.
