Mária Schmidt: The solution for Hungary is peace as soon as possible
For Hungary, a faster war and peace is the solution to the difficulties caused by the situation in Ukraine, historian Mária Schmidt said at the presentation of her book “A Look at the Russian-Ukrainian” in Budapest on Thursday.
The director general of the House of Terror Museum said: Russia cannot afford to lose the war, and the United States cannot afford to let Ukraine lose this war.
We are at the beginning of something that could escalate and be worldwide, he added.
Mária Schmidt said: things are decided in Washington, the whole world should take note of this.
The policy of the previous American president, Donald Trump, was that the main enemy is China, that other fronts should not be opened, and energy should not be wasted on the export of democracy. This is also valid now, only the United States will count with Russia – and through it with Europe – first, and then China may follow, the historian said.
“America wants a weaker Russia, not a better oneMária Schmidt added.
He explained: the goal is to gain control over Russian energy and to cut it off from China. Russian energy should not be allowed into Europe unless the United States has control over it. The Germans are dying from this, but they don’t dare, the author said.
The historian said that the European leadership is not capable of carrying out its duties, which is indicated by the fact that it plunged into the policy of sanctions against Russia without preparation. Putin rose to the provocations and launched an irresponsible war in Ukraine, and in this situation not only Hungary, but also Europe was not dealt with, he noted.
“We are on the periphery of the American empire“, said Mária Schmidt, adding: Hungary is a member of NATO and the EU, for her there is no other side. We are a small country, we need to find some other solution instead of Russian gas, he emphasized.
He highlighted:
For Hungary, faster peace may be the solution. “We need culture for strength, culture for sustaining power“
Mária Schmidt said.
