Choreographer Saar Magal with “Love me more”
The famous choreographer Saar Magal is a guest at the Cologne Theater with the world premiere of “Love me more”.
That Theater Cologne calls “Love me more”, the piece by the reliable choreographer Saar Magal (photo), a crossover project of dance and acting. At the intersection of dance and drama, it examines the phenomenon of modern narcissism and the ominous trend in media, advertising and social media to idealize youth and make old age taboo. In a collage of Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and various film and pop quotes, Magal explores the questions of desire, self-love and the will to optimize.
Is all Generation Z just TikTok and Instagram egomaniacs who only know hedonism? Does the healthy lifestyle turn us into ultra-self-loving mirrors, mirror-sayers?
The premiere is on October 15th. More performances on Theater Cologne are on October 16th, 25th, 26th and 30th and on November 3rd.
Saar Magal was a guest at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and at the State Opera Unter den Linden in Berlin with their crossover projects “Hacking Wagner” and “Monteverdi Project – Futurity Trilogy Episode 2”.
She also re-staged Pina Bausch’s creation “The Play with the Ship” for Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch in Wuppertal, which is a great triumph given the importance Pina Bausch has for dance.
In the 2020/21 season, Magal’s project “10 odd emotions” was supposed to premiere at the Schauspiel Frankfurt, which will now take place in the 22/23 season due to the corona pandemic.
Saar Magal performed for the first time in “(Ob)sessions” at the Vienna Burgtheater in 2021, a piece developed with dancers and actors.
