AS Monaco is consumed in the furnace of Trabzonspor
AS Monaco lost heavily on the lawn of Trabzonspor (4-0) this Thursday evening on behalf of the fourth day of the Europa League.
The game: 4-0
Philippe Clément had warned. The atmosphere would be warm. In the volcano of Trabzonspor, the Monegasques first dominated this meeting, before being completely carried away, in ashes their hopes of victory.
Well established in the Turkish camp, Wissam Ben Yedder’s teammates got several chances at the start of the match, notably through Breel Embolo (13′, 23′), but also Youssouf Fofana (20′).
But neither of the two internationals managed to deceive the vigilance of an imperial Ugurcan Çakir on his line and author of a beautiful flight on the strike of the French international.
Opposite, Alexander Nübel was reassuring, lying perfectly on an attempt by Jean-Philippe Gbamin (40′), before making a big mistake just before half-time (see below).

By allowing Trabzonspor to open the scoring on an own goal scored by Malang Sarr, the German goalkeeper unwittingly allowed doubt to settle in the heads of his teammates, who on returning from the locker room quickly conceded a second but.
Entering the break, Vitor Hugo doubled the bet with a header from a corner struck by Anastasios Bakasetas (2-0, 48′). Jostled, the Monegasques were never able to react and conceded a third but on a free kick cleverly hit low to the ground by Enis Bardhi (3-0, 57′), then a fourth on a curled shot from Trézéguet (4-0, 69′).
A painful defeat for AS Monaco, which complicates the task in the race for qualification. In the standings, the Monegasques are now third (6 points), tied with the Turks (6 points) and behind the Hungarians of Ferencvaros (9 points).
Next meeting for ASM, this Sunday (5:05 p.m.) in the league, against Clermont Foot.
The fact of play: The failed raise of Nübel
Everything was fine. Monaco mastered their subject, until this innocuous kick start, just before the break, which tipped the game.
Wanting to start on the left after receiving the ball, Alexander Nübel sent the ball into the thigh of Malang Sarr who was running in the same direction and who could not prevent the ball from ending up in his own net (1-0, 44′).
An error of assessment by the German goalkeeper had serious consequences, since the Monegasques never really recovered from this opener against the run of play (10 shots to 3 for the Monegasques before the half-hour mark).
The number: 3
It is already the third time this season that AS Monaco have conceded at least four goals in a match, after Lens (1-4) and Troyes (2-4).
The phrase: “We still have our destiny in our hands”
Philippe Clement : “We started this match well, but we conceded a goal that we should never concede. On the second goal, we miss the duel on the corner, we do not attack the ball. At 2-0, we have to play together and not play with our emotions. This is what made our strength in the last games. There are two games left in this group stage. We still have our destiny in our hands. It’s up to us to manage these last two meetings well. »
