The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is established in the former headquarters of the SDS – Bulgaria
The Bulgarian European prosecutors will be located in the building at 134 Rakovski Street in Sofia, it was decided today.
“The building has a deed of state ownership, it is currently under the disposal of the regional government. There is very little private property on the ground floor. This private property, of course, remains private. Moreover, in its main part, the building will be known to the SJC , so that it can be used for the needs of the European Prosecutor’s Office. The building is administrative. There will be no construction permit. It has such functions and only repairs will be carried out,” commented Minister of Regional Development Ivan Shishkov after the meeting of the caretaker government.
He forwarded to the regional governor of the city of Sofia the questions of where political parties, which are currently housed at “Rakovski” 134, will be moved. SDS wants to continue to be a tenant on one floor of the building. The party, which is a coalition partner of GERB, was a tenant of two floors until February, when the contract for us expired.
Currently, the six-story building is empty, visibly neglected, and the ground floor is littered with belongings removed from the SDS party headquarters, which was on the 4th and 5th floors. On the other floors, the government of Boyko Borisov, with a decision of February 20, 2019, housed the NFSB and Volya, but they have already moved out.
The building was built in 1968 for the World Youth Festival, hosted by Sofia. Later there was the headquarters of the Bulgarian Industrial and Economic Association, and then the changes in 1989 two floors were presented to the united opposition SDS.
According to the Law on Political Parties, the right to the state premises belongs to formations that received more than 1% in parliamentary elections, if they were independent, and more than 4%, if they were in a coalition. Follow the weak results of the parliamentary elections in 2014 (SDS was part of the Reform Bloc) the party lost part of the premises, and later became a tenant of two floors.
