RTL Today – Fraudulent messages: SMS scams are on the rise in Luxembourg
Police report that phishing attempts are underway. Several readers have indeed testified in this direction with many fraudulent messages received in recent days.
Police warn of Fraudulent SMS inviting their recipients to visit the Guichet.lu website in particular.
Other messages, which seem to come from banksof delivery services or even law enforcementshould also be ignored.
The process is often very similar:
The message promises you a refund or asks for payment and offers to go to a site that looks like the company the thieves are trying to impersonate. This is where the scam happens since it is not the authentic link of the company or the alleged service but a dishonest page which tries to access the data of the persons concerned.
If you receive this kind of message, do not click on the link! This is indeed phishing, as reported by the police, and dishonest people are trying to to access your personal data.
If in doubt, contact the service concerned immediately! They could tell you. As a rule, banks or administrations do not communicate by SMS, so these numbers can be immediately blocked and deleted.
Finally, once again, check the address used in the link sent by SMS or e-mail. Clicking on such a link may already be enough to give access to some of your data.
