AS Monaco wins in Montpellier and gets closer to the podium
For the first meeting of this Sunday as part of the 10th day of Ligue 1, Montpellier HSC received AS Monaco at the La Mosson stadium. The Héraultais, slapped in Toulouse last weekend in the Occitanie derby, had to revive against Monegasques in great shape, who remained on two successes in Ligue 1 then in the Europa League. In terms of compositions, Olivier Dall’Oglio lined up a 4-2-3-1 and took advantage of the returns of Maxime Estève in central defense and Stephy Mavididi to the left of his attack. Among the visitors, Philippe Clément only made a change from the 4-4-2 winner of Trabzonspor, with the tenure of Maghnes Akliouche in place of Krépin Diatta on the right.
After a balanced start to the match between the two formations, it was Monaco who drew first with a long shot from Mohamed Camara, captured by Jonas Omlin (10th). The Malian was imitated by Ciao Henrique, from the right, but there too, the Swiss goalkeeper reassuring himself in two stages (27th). On the Montpellier side, Christopher Jullien was blocked at the last moment by Breel Embolo on his head on receiving a corner (25th). Téji Savanier’s free kick in the process failed to surprise Alexander Nübel at the near post (26th). Then followed some highlights for both teams, without offering a clear opportunity.
ASM Winning Coaching
Launched following a bad opponent’s recovery, Arnaud Nordin started a very good counter but served Elye Wahi behind his back in the area (35th). Just before the break, Wissam Ben Yedder, not very dangerous in the first period, narrowly missed the top corner of Omlin on a well-placed set piece (42nd). Monaco finally failed thanks to Embolo, who deceived Switzerland with a cannon shot in added time (0-1, 45+1). Upon returning from the locker room, the MHSC showed much better offensive intentions, forcing ASM to retreat in their last third. Just like WBY, Savanier was not far from the target on his free kick on the right side (49th). Nordin, very determined, tried his luck in the zone of truth, not far from the woods of Nübel (55th).
After a good comeback from the incoming Myron Boadu, Ben Yedder missed his face-to-face with Omlin, who had laid down well to stop his low cross shot (73rd). Savanier found himself in a striking position but lacked precision (70th) before being countered by his own teammate (76th). Taking advantage of a hazardous exit from the Swiss goalkeeper, Boadu perfectly cut Caio Henrique’s cross to make the break (2-0, 80th). Surprised by Nübel, Khazri was unable to extend the center of his captain (85th). Despite a nice volley from Vanderson in the last moments (90 + 3rd), the score did not change. AS Monaco won a major victory at La Paillade and temporarily came back to within two points of the podium. Montpellier suffers a sixth setback in Ligue 1 and remains 10th.
