Despite a failed start to the match and the expulsion of its first scorer, Marc Beckstead, the Hockey Club of Caen took the best of Mont-Blanc, this Saturday, October 8, 2022. The first day of the D1 championship was fiercely contested between both formations, but the efficiency of the locals in numerical superiority and their good finish allowed them to start ideally. Félix Chamberland offered himself a double. He was replaced by Gasper Cerkovnik and Marius Cagigos in the last third.
The reactions
Julien Guimard, coach of HC Caen: “It was really nice to get to the heart of the matter, the rink was full, we felt a competitive atmosphere. It really wasn’t easy. There were a lot of expectations, a little bit of stress. We were very hesitant at the start of the match. We give the first goal. As we went on, I felt much better, more precise. We didn’t want to discover ourselves against a very attacking team. We did not want to offer counterattacks to Mont-Blanc. He almost found a happy medium and we came out better. On one benefited from our adjustments in the third period. We had to kill penalties but we took advantage of our moments in numerical superiority. I’m very happy with the boys’ effort, the five goals scored and the three points taken. »
Félix Chamberland, forward of the Hockey Club of Caen: “It wasn’t super clean, we’re not super happy with the way we won the game, but we got three big points. It is in the continuity of our preparation. The success we want is at the end of the season. Every match won is a step in the right direction. The team wanted to beat Mont-Blanc also for our coach (Julien Guimard was not kept by Mont-Blanc last season, editor’s note).
The next match will oppose Caen to Dunkirk, Saturday October 15, 2022 (7:30 p.m.).
