Alexandre Roumat recounts the underside of his arrival at the Stadium
Alexandre Roumat has been from Toulouse since this season. After five seasons at Union Bordeaux-Bègles, the third line activated a turning point in his career by yielding to calls from the Haut-Garonne club. Because in an interview with La Dépêche, the 25-year-old player admitted that it had been several years since contacts had been established with Toulouse. He tells how it happened.
To be honest, there had been contacts for several years. Two years ago, I made the choice to stay in Bordeaux because it was the logical continuation of this adventure, we were starting to taste the final stages in particular. I had hesitated for a long time. Toulouse is a club that I have always admired, for its record and the way it plays. This time, I felt that I was coming to the end of the cycle and I wanted a new challenge.
Bordeaux also had a strong ambition but Toulouse is definitely THE big team in the Top 14. When I see that many of my teammates, younger than me, have already won titles, it makes you want to. Even though I was a kid, I had the chance to experience it in 2002 through my father and I would like to taste it myself.
Complicated to resist the Toulouse call, and given the club’s record, its history, it can be easy to understand that the former Bordelo-Béglais gave in.
