The Gasteig HP8 celebrates its birthday
More than 1000 events in the first year
One year after the opening of the new cultural area on October 8, 2021, the Gasteig HP8 can look back on a successful season
“In our first year we had more than 1000 events in the Gasteig HP8,” says Gasteig Managing Director Max Wagner. “We were overwhelmed by the enormous interest that our new quarter has met with. Not only in Munich, but far beyond the city limits.”
At the opening ceremony on October 8, 2021, the Isarphilharmonie was praised for its excellent acoustics. This proved itself over the course of the year not only in the top-class opening season of the Munich Philharmonic and in concerts by international orchestras. In addition to the classics, there were many highlights such as performances by stars such as Iggy Popp, Jamie Cullum or the Jazzrausch Big Band.
But the Gasteig HP8 is much more than just the Isarphilharmonie: up to 4,000 people a day explored the entire site at Gasteig classics such as the dance festival “Tanz den Gasteig”, the “Long Night of Music” or the children’s festival “Der Gasteig brummt”. including Hall E and Hall X.
New rooms always create space for new ideas: The Munich City Library opened in the listed Hall E as an “open library” with daily opening hours from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. At the new “Alpenrausch-Festival” Thousands of Munich residents enjoyed New Folk Music. And that too Munich Film Festival celebrated its opening for the first time in the Gasteig.
The media, even the media, talked about the “Miracle of Munich”, a “magic sound” and even a new “temple of culture”. New York Times reported a great report to the “Acoustics of the highest quality” of the new Munich concert hall. And the cultural workers themselves do not skimp on praise either. “People all over the world should know that there is a great new hall in Munich,” said the star pianist, for example Daniel Trifonov after its premiere in the Isarphilharmonie. Also was satisfied Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter: “For me, the Gasteig HP8 and the Isarphilharmonie are an ideal blueprint for cultural buildings of the future.”
Gasteig boss Max Wagner is looking forward to the coming season: “Now that the adult education center and music college have also moved to the site, the Gasteig family is finally complete again. Our goal is to get even more people excited about the Gasteig HP8 together.”
Even in the second year, no highlight is spared: concerts like those of the Munich Philharmonic With Igor Levit or Kent Naganodie of BR Symphony Orchestra With Kirill Petrenko or Zubin Mehta and the many other international artists like Anne Sophie Mutter are just some of the musical highlights. Mnozil brass with “unserious brass music”, that Herbert Pixner project with his new folk music and Gregory Porter with contemporary jazz are examples of the range of genres that can be heard in the Isarphilharmonie.
There are also – in addition to hands-on activities such as the salsa nights and the Go sing a choir – Other cultural highlights: Seventeen events alone Munich literary festival will take place in the Gasteig HP8 in autumn. And in spring 2023 the city-wide art campaign will start “Flower Power Festival”where the Gasteig HP8 WILL be the festival center.
The first anniversary will be celebrated with all guests attending the Munich Philharmonic concert next Saturday. Katrin creditMunich’s second mayor and chairwoman of the Gasteig supervisory board Maxim Wagner distribute a Gasteig birthday cake to the audience during the concert break.
