Public transport across borders should be improved – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – Councilor Graziella Marok-Wachter (Liechtenstein), Councilor Beat Tinner (St. Gallen) and State Councilor Daniel Zadra (Vorarlberg) signed the declaration of intent on Tuesday on behalf of their government regarding the planning and implementation of measures to improve cross-border public transport.
According to a statement, the trilateral declaration of intent also includes the founding of the “Trilateral Commission for Public Transport Vorarlberg-St.Gallen-Liechtenstein”. “In the border region of St. Gallen, Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein, mobility is also of crucial importance due to the close economic ties that go hand in hand with a considerable amount of cross-border commuter traffic,” Transport Minister Graziella Marok-Wachter is quoted as saying in the statement.
Government Councilor Beat Tinner agrees: “While there are attractive public transport offers in the regions and they are used intensively, there are opportunities for cross-border optimization on the supply and demand side.” because the range of public transport is still not customer-oriented enough. Uniform tariff structures, direct connections without transfers or coordinated connections at the borders are required.
The present declaration of intent is intended to serve as the basis for closer cooperation between the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Canton of St. Gallen and the State of Vorarlberg in the coming years in the planning and implementation of measures to improve public transport. Compared to the current declaration of intent between St. Gallen and Vorarlberg from April 2021, it has been expanded to include the Principality of Liechtenstein and the establishment of the “Trilateral Commission for Public Transport Vorarlberg – St. Gallen – Liechtenstein”. This is intended to strengthen and institutionalize cross-border cooperation.
“The necessary measures to improve cross-border public transport can only be successfully implemented together with the Canton of St. Gallen and the Principality of Liechtenstein. , State Councilor Daniel Zadra is quoted in the message.
