The Liechtenstein U17 national team, consisting of players born in 2006 and 2007, completed their last test before the European Championship qualifying tournament in Bosnia in The Hague. She encountered the Swiss U16 national team, which came with 22 players born in 2007 and replaced the entire team at half-time. The Swiss were confident from the start with high ball security, had a lot of ball possession and were clearly superior to the field. The Liechtensteiners, for their part, managed quite well, hardly allowing any great scoring chances. Again and again they had a foot in between and defended in solidarity. So the Swiss needed a penalty kick and a headed goal after a corner kick to take the lead against coach Michael Koller’s team. The goal that made it 3-0 at half-time was also easily given after a defender slipped in the penalty area, allowing the Swiss opponent to score.
The Liechtensteiners didn’t have enough for their own offensive actions for practically the entire game. Only one shot on target after 70 minutes by Julian Keller was the result of the guest team. The game was still valuable for coach Michael Koller: “It was important that we were able to play against Switzerland today. The main thing for us is to continue to give the players security, to act even under heavy pressure and to know what everyone has to do. Now we are once again confident that we can take a small step and then hold up well against very strong opponents in Bosnia in the European Championship qualification». At the qualifying tournament, which takes place at the end of October, Liechtenstein will face hosts Bosnia as well as Ukraine and Azerbaijan. (PD)
