Green light for the recovery of the historic Rimini-San Marino railway line
Rome, 4 Oct. (askanews) – After the announcement in recent weeks, the loan has arrived that finances the feasibility study and the design for the reopening of the Rimini-San Marino railway, closed since 1944. Which Ministry of Tourism, through its participation Aderente Institutional to the Italian State Railways Foundation, has defined the payment of a capital contribution to be used for this purpose.
“Thanks to the synergy between the Ministry of Tourism and the FS Italiane Foundation – reads one -, it will be possible to concretely proceed with the drafting of the reconstruction project of the disused and spectacular railway track once traveled by the unforgettable white-blue train”.
The Rimini-San Marino railway, about 32 km long, of which 20 fall within Italian territory and the part of the ascent on the slopes of the Titano in the Republic of San Marino, was a narrow gauge line that guaranteed the direct connection between the two up to 1944. Inaugurated on 12 June 1932 on the initiative and project of the Italian Government, it gave a strong boost to the economy of the Republic, and in particular to tourism.
Severely damaged during the bombing of San Marino on June 26, 1944, it was abandoned and abandoned, while the characteristic rolling stock was covered inside some tunnels, arriving almost intact in the structures up to the present day.
