From technology to the vegan metaverse. The future arrives in Pisa with Internet Festival 2022
Technique capable of explaining the inexplicable, digital wine to combine with music, precision agriculture with cloud, sharing hives, quantum computers, shows in the Metaverse, impossible interviews that disappeared years ago, intelligent shin guards able to collect fundamental data to improve the performances of the players. These are just some of the “forms of the future” projected by Internet Festival 2022, edition number 12 scheduled in Pisa from 6 to 9 October.
Four days of panels, workshops, meetings with internationally renowned speakers, including technology and web experts, sociologists, artists, book authors, representatives of the business world and institutional institutions, ready to probe our relationship with transformation this year following an unusual key theme, if combined with innovation: #imperfection. Because even machines (and those who program them) can make mistakes. And the errors are part of a natural evolution of the system that pushes us towards a less idealized technology, inspired by ethical, supportive, sustainable principles. In two words: more human. Dozens of appointments in different locations in the city, open to the public (booking recommended on www.internetfestival.it), with a queue of online appointments until December. Also this year the #IF wifi network will be set up by the technical partner Devitalia.
DIGITAL SPORTS. The most tech football match seen so far will be played on the Pisan soil, a sort of preview of the Internet Festival: on Monday 3 October at 6.30 pm a team made up of old glories of Pisa Calcio will wear the first smart shin guards, designed by Soccerment in collaboration with some teams Series A, capable of collecting valuable data, useful for improving performance and efficiency. The same data will be discussed at IF in terms of data analysis. Sports will also be discussed with Paralympic athletes Matteo Betti (fencer), Lorenzo Bini and Chantal Pistelli (surfers), who will talk about performances beyond human borders, together with Francesco Martinelli (Ct Spada national Paralympic team).
STRAIGHT INTO THE METAVERSE. On Friday 7 October the IF public will be catapulted into the Metaverse with Monica Guerritore, actress, screenwriter and writer, who presents the Mecenati project as a national preview at the Internet Festival, with the first NTT token (6.15 pm Sala Azzurra, Scuola Normale Superiore). In collaboration with Istituto Modartech it will be possible to attend a fashion show in the Metaverse. Among the guests of the festival, Edoardo Di Pietro, the first Italian graduate in this “parallel universe”.
NETWORK DEMOCRACY. We will also talk about war and democracy with the journalist and writer Francesca Mannocchi, about the ethical implications of conflicts, with the philosopher Michela Marzano, about cyber war with the journalist Carola Frediani, about digital citizenship with the AgCom Commissioner Elisa Giomi, about political satire with Alessio Marzilli, author of the “silences” videos at Propaganda Live, of disinformation and fake news with the head of the Center of Data Science and Complexity for Society of the Sapienza of Rome Walter Quattrociocchi. Extensive discussion on activism inside and outside the web, with a look at social inclusion and diversity: among the guests on this theme Maura Gancitano, Jennifer Guerra and Silvia Semenzin.
CHALLENGES OF THE FUTURE. The quantum computing challenge will instead be taken up by the scientist Anna Grassellino, who is working for the US government on the construction of the quantum supercomputer at FermiLab in Chicago, and told by science popularizer and writer Gabriella Greison. In the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Yoshua Bengio (in connection) will intervene, winner of the Turing Prize in 2018, the “Nobel” in information technology, together with Maria Chiara Carrozza national president of the CNR. Also on the future of AI, the meeting will be attended by, among others, the regional councilor for education Alessandra Nardini.
ART IN THE AGE OF NFT. Museums are also updated: Maurizio Vanni, museologist and innovation expert, will make us understand how the apps already available – but can be used for other functions – can be useful for museums to become more sustainable (economically, socially, from an environmental point of view). ). THE YOUNGEST FESTIVAL. The T-Tours, the laboratory activities dedicated to school children and adults, will then lead the participants to an elsewhere populated by holograms. DIGITAL RIGHTS. Digital rights will be discussed on Friday 7 in two sessions hosted by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna. After the greetings of Giuseppe Martinico, professor of the same University, intervened among others, Fernanda Faini of the Interdepartmental Center “Law and Technologies of the Frontier” (DETECT) and curator of the section, Dianora Poletti, judge of the Court of Cassation, the journalist Federica Meta . The afternoon session will deal with “Metaverse and democracy: governing the technological society”. Here too many guests are expected, including the lawyer Ernesto Belisario and Andrea Simoncini, professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Florence.
TABLE TECHNOLOGY. Technological innovation is served: even on the table, with unthinkable implications for our daily life, even starting from the new flourishing branch of law applied to food and in particular to certifications. During the Internet Festival there will be a way to learn about apps that can make us less alone at dinner (and waste less), scientifically measure the psycho-physical reactions to wine paired with music (thanks to a collective experiment in sensory tasting), to enter the multiverse vegan and understand how to share the management of a beehive through an app, obtaining an endowment of organic honey.
IMPOSSIBLE INTERVIEWS & CINEMA – For the format The Impossible Interviews of IF, on Friday 7 at the Cinema Lumière Life and Calculations by Leonardo Pisano, known as Fibonacci, will be staged, a show produced by IF2022 and I Sacchi di Sabbia, with the support of Mic and Regione Toscana . Participants are actresses and actors in detention from the Theater School of the Don Bosco Prison (9.30 pm, admission € 2). TECHNO AND JAZZ. The soundtrack of the festival will be based on jazz with the exclusive Italian performance of the Norwegian group Jaga Jazzist (9/10), and techno, with the DJ and producer Dino Sabatini, in charge of dragging the participants until the first light of dawn. INTERACTIVE PISA. For the entire duration of IF2022, the city of Pisa will be even more interactive, including installations and game experiences that can be used by the public between the Logge dei Banchi and the Le Benedettine Congress Center, including that of Legambiente on the subject of Agenda 2030, the contest gourmet “The taste of imperfection”, born from Confesercenti Toscana Nord in collaboration with city restaurants, and the game Go some check, click, an interactive challenge around Pisa that on Friday 7 Saturday and 8 will win prizes for 5 thousand euros and get to know the city beyond the Tower. The competition involves 82 shops and is carried out with the support of ConfCommercio and Confesercenti. Instead, the interactive tourist routes designed by the Municipality of Pisa to suggest thematic routes to the more classic alternative ones of the city of the Tower are destined to remain: a series of QR Codes identified by the Pisa Cross guide travelers through stories, anecdotes, ancient and contemporary, with lyrics, videos and music. The initiative will be presented on Sunday 9, from 10 to 11.
