a belt against fractures created to protect the elderly
A belt to protect the elderly against femoral neck fractures has been developed in Marseille.
A pocket airbag. This is how we could define this new “fall arrest belt” developed in Marseille after more than two and a half years of research and development.
Connected system
This belt should make it possible to prevent the fracture of the neck of the femur in the elderly following a fall. “We have two airbags on each side”, present at the microphone of BFM Marseille Provence, Gérard Lesseur, president ofIndianovorigin of this invention.
“Depending on the fall of the person, the airbag will repeat itself on the right or on the left”, he continues.
The system is connected to an application that allows relatives of an elderly person to know if an airbag has been triggered. This belt can be used repeatedly. “You just have to change the gas cartridge,” says Annabelle Labrune, engineer at Indiennov.
Gérard Lesseur also highlights the discretion of the belt: “The work we did was to miniaturize it so that it is acceptable when worn.”
49 euros per month
The system will be marketed in the coming weeks in the form of a two-year subscription with a monthly payment of 49 euros per month.
This belt should make it possible to reduce the number of fractures of the neck of the femur which lead to situations of dependency in the elderly. According to INSEE, by 2030, 77,000 elderly people will be over 75 in the Bouches-du-Rhône.
