Portugal participates in Paris, study to evaluate health services
Study involves 21 OECD countries.
Portugal will participate in the international “PaRIS” study on the results and experiences of users with health services, which involves 21 OECD countries and is coordinated at the national level by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
According to the Record TV Europein statements to Lusa, André Peraltanational project manager, who explained in Portugal a sample covers 6,000 users from 60 Family Health Units and Personalized Health Care Units (USCP), a selection made in conjunction with the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS).
“From each list of units of these health units, 2 to 2 were randomly selected that serve 5 users performed”, who are over 45 years old and have had at least one contact with primary health care in the last six months, explained.
As André Peralta told Lusa, as questions cover the patient’s health statusbut dimensions such as mental health and the social dimension of health will be addressed, for example, “whether or not the elderly have a social support network”.
“Afterwards, they will also be explored as experiences with the health services of these users, [perguntando] If it is easy for someone to schedule appointments, if you wait a long time, how long does a doctor last to coordinate your appointment problems, can you review medicine”, exemplified the specialist in Public Health.
This work is developed within the scope of the project Paris – International Study on Results and User Experiences with Health servicesinitiative of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
The initiative of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD intends to find a new generation of indicators) defined for results in primary health care (C) Outcomes described as users and how they can replace CSP information across countries, experiences and coordination of related services across countries that can be replaced after delivery and coordination of health services.

professional groups, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, health professionals and psychologists, associations of health professionals – professional health focus groups Portuguese Association of General and Family Medicine, National Association of Pharmacies and National Association of Family Health Units – patient associations.
“You will understand how the different health units are organized (…) and how patients perceive this type of organization. As it is an international study, comparing the satisfaction of the Portuguese with the satisfaction of patients from the other participating countries”, concluded the expert.
ONE most of the 21 participating countries are from the European Union – such as Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, Romania or Greece – but also includes other OECD countries such as Australia, Israel, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada and the United States of America.
According to André Peralta, the intention of this study is “Understand how countries provide care, whether people are satisfied or not, and then try to improve access and quality of care”.
The second phase of the study will run from April to September 2023 and the results will be released in 2024, at a meeting of ministers of health.
