Adler Siegen in Salzburg – The new South Tyrolean daily newspaper
The Eagles Bozen, who had to do without several regular players, defeated Salzburg 6-1 away.
It seems to be confirmed that the defeat against Aisulu Almaty on the last matchday may have been a blip.
Captain Mara Da Rech, Mia Campo Bagatin, Samantha Gius, Elisa Innocenti. Four regular players cannot make the trip to the away game against Salzburg, that was the bad news the day before the game.
One can anticipate that one of coach Stefano Daprà’s favorite sayings, “the best team we have is playing”, once again applied.
The self-confidence of being able to recover immediately after the 3-0 defeat against the Kazakh team Aisulu Almaty last Wednesday in Bolzano was evident that it would have led to a 6-1 victory – also in view of the withdrawal of four important players , you wouldn’t have gone that far before the game.
The first 10 minutes of the encounter in the Eisarena Salzburg clearly belong to the home team, who are obviously trying to take the lead immediately in order to put the South Tyrol Eagles under pressure. The bill doesn’t add up. From the middle of the starting third, the South Tyrolean women take more and more control, but the conclusions are still too imprecise. The first 20 minutes ended goalless.
In the 5th minute of the middle third, the Eagles write to South Tyrol for the first time. Amie Varano shoots just after the blue line, Salzburg’s goalkeeper, the American McKenna Hulslander, is powerless against the rocket. Almost halfway through the game, Marissa Massaro doubled back with her first goal of the season.
Emma Cereghini snatches the disc from a Mozart city resident behind the goal and immediately plays it in front of the goal where Massaro is lurking. Less than four minutes later, Elena Perathoner reacted the quickest to a stab in front of the Salzburg box and pushed the puck over the line. The 3-0 is a heavy burden for the home team. And it gets even worse.
The South Tyrol Eagles use the second majority game of the encounter to make it 4-0. Marissa Massaro deflects Franziska Stocker’s shot with millimeter precision off the post and into the net.
With this intermediate result we go into the next break.
The Eagles South Tyrol found out in the final section that a game is usually only over after 60 minutes when the Salzburg team spoiled Eagles goalkeeper Ilaria Girardi’s shut-out with a series of stupid mistakes.
So shaken up, the Eagles fired more at the opposing goal again, but the fifth goal came from a solo effort by Elena Perathoner, who made a Salzburg goalkeeper look old with a backhand flick under the crossbar, which is well worth seeing.
Shortly before the end of the game, the rather overwhelmed referee imposed a penalty against the Eagles Südtirol, Salzburg took the goalkeeper off the ice for a sixth field player, but Eleonora Bonafini scored from her own third into the empty goal.
With that, the bag is closed and the South Tyroleans can be credited with another three points.
The next game in the EWHL will take place on October 22nd in Ferlach, Carinthia. Opponent is the KEHV Lakers.
But first there are three games in the Italian championship on the program in which the Eagles make their debut on October 9th in Cavalese against Valdifiemme.
