Princess Madeleine of Sweden Posts about Hurricane Ian Relief
Sweden’s Princess Madeleine is focused on hurricane relief. The princess, who lives in Florida with her husband, Christopher O’Neill, and their children Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas and Princess Adrienne, shared a slideshow of Hurricane Ian photos on her Instagram.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those whose lives were devastatingly affected by Hurricane Ian,” Madeleine wrote on Instagram. “Please join me in contributing in any way you can, through one of the many charities helping those in need. I also thank the huge number of volunteers and army reservists who have already begun the rebuilding process.”
Princess Madeleine moved to Miami, Florida in 2018, but regularly travels back to her home in Sweden. It is unclear if she and her family were in Florida at the time of the storm. However, the Miami-Dade area be spared worst effects of the hurricane, but yesterday approximately 13,000 customers were without power. While Princess Madeleine didn’t direct her followers to any specific resources, here are ways you can help victims of Hurricane Ian.
Princess Madeleine’s private life in Florida mirrors decisions by European monarchies in recent years (and days) to slim down official members of the royal family.
In 2019, Princess Madeleine’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, stripped his children of their “Royal Highness” titles (along with the children of her brother, Prince Carl Philip), although they still retained their titles of prince and princess. At the time, the palace said in a statement: “His Majesty the King has decided that the children of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and the children of Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O’Neill will no longer be members of the Royal Household.”
“This change has been planned for a long time. Chris and I think it is good that our children now have a greater opportunity to shape their own lives as private individuals in the future,” Madeleine wrote on her Instagram in response to the news.
Just this week, Queen Margrethe of Denmark followed suit, removing the royal couple’s titles from four of her grandchildren.
