Enviro is developing a plan for a second tire recycling facility in Sweden
The final investment decision is still dependent on securing ELT deliveries, logistics agreements
Stockholm – Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) has advanced its project to establish a large-scale pyrolysis plant for waste tires, the company announced on 27 September.
The latest step, it says, involves submitting an application for a building permit for the planned recycling facility in Uddevalla.
As previously announced, Enviro aims to build a waste tire pyrolysis plant in the Lillesjö district of Uddevalla to process up to 60,000 tonnes per year of end-of-life tires (ELT), almost half of Sweden’s total annual ELT volume.
In its update, Enviro said it would not yet finalize the investment decision, and that this would depend on securing access to ELT supplies and agreements covering supplies of recycled materials.
If completed, the company expects the new facility to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The project will be a complement to Enviro’s existing facility in Åsensbruk, Mellerud, which currently recycles 15ktpa of waste tires.
The move is part of Enviro’s “aggressive expansion plan” announced on May 20.
As part of the plan, the Swedish recycling company aims to establish up to four new facilities per year to ultimately build 30 facilities by 2030. Western Sweden and Central Europe have been identified as initial priority markets.
Enviro has developed a patented technology to recycle carbon black, oil and steel from end-of-life vehicle tires.
