Who is Alexandre Djiku? Wolves’ Strasbourg defender is ‘ready to make an offer’ for
Everything you need to know about Alexander Djiku, the Strasbourg defender linked with a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January.
Wolverhampton Wanderers haven’t had the best start to the campaign, winning just one of their opening seven Premier League games.
Old Gold sit 17th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone after suffering three defeats and as many draws.
Bruno Lage has made several changes to his squad ahead of the new season, including the departure of captain Conor Coady to Everton on a season-long loan.
Wolves have conceded seven goals so far – the same number as league leaders Arsenal. Despite this, it looks like they could further strengthen their defensive options in January with the signing of Alexander Djiku from Strasbourg.
According Ghanafootballthe Old Gold are interested in bringing the centre-back to Molineux during the January transfer window.
The site claims Wolves were close to signing Djiku in the summer but a deal ‘collapsed at the eleventh hour’.
Who is Alexandre Djiku?
Born in Montpellier, France on August 9, 1994, Djiku is a Ghanaian international with 17 caps to his name.
The 28-year-old started his career at Bastia, first playing for their B team before making his first-team debut in their 2-1 Coupe de la Ligue loss to Evian. He went on to make 51 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, scoring once.
Djiku joined Caen in 2017, where he was a regular at the club before being snapped up by Strasbourg two years later.
Current form
The centre-back has started all eight of Strasbourg’s Ligue 1 appearances so far and has an average rating of 7.20, according to SofaScore.
He scored once in the league and averaged 4.8 clearances per game, while making 2.0 tackles per game.
The 28-year-old played in Ghana’s 3-0 friendly loss to Brazil on Friday and is set to feature in their game against Nicaragua on Tuesday night.
What is the probability that the agreement will materialize?
A move for Djiku is likely, especially with him out of contract next summer and Strasbourg’s current league form.
The French side are winless in their first eight games – the only Ligue 1 side to be without a win so far.
It’s unclear how much Wolves would have to pay for the centre-back’s signature, but they could consider alternatives if the price of a move runs out, or have to wait until the summer to secure his services on a free transfer.
