Toulouse. Arnaud Bernard’s women have resumed their place
After two years of absence linked to the pandemic, the association Les Femmes d’AB took over Place Arnaud-Bernard this Saturday, September 24 as part of a festive afternoon entitled “Notre Place”. “It was our 5th edition, recalls N’Deye Nancy Diouf, president of this association. At the time, we launched this initiative to claim the place of women on this esplanade too often occupied by men and where they were not welcome there. The support of the City and of Julie Escudier, vice-president of Toulouse-Métropole in charge of social cohesion and inclusion, has markedly improved the situation. In particular thanks to the takeover of businesses which encourages a diversity of audiences on this esplanade. Nevertheless, vigilance must always be in order. Hence this Saturday afternoon, a sort of booster shot which provided many people, both male and international associative with in particular the presence of Sylvie Froidevaux, representative Julie Escudier and of the Midi-Pyrénées collective for women’s rights”. A festive moment and exchanges where different animations declined in the feminine follow one another: boxing with the TMBboxe, Indian dance with the Cie Bani-Thani, the association Nord Loisir with the children of the schools and their drawings on the theme of equality girls and boys, the Brazilian percussion company with Sardinhas Da Mata and the BellyWarda troupe are joining forces for the choreography on the public space, “Coeur de Femmes” and finally the screening of the documentary “Place aux Créatrices” by Eva Baboulène around the work of around twenty artists who created Arnaud-Bernard which was a great success and caught the attention of these gentlemen.
The AB Women’s Association defended a square open to everyone where everyone rubs shoulders in peace: “We want to move around quietly, not to be forced to go around this square as was so often the case in the years past and be able to sit on the terrace without suffering reflections. Place Arnaud-Bernard must become a full-fledged republican square, accessible to all”.
