Ukraine is moving from a commodity model of the economy to a food economy. During the war, the export of dairy products, meat production, alternative sources of energy (bioethanol, biogas, biomethane), processing of grain crops.
Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy First Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, stated this, the ministry reported.
“The force majeure factor of the war accelerated our transformation. Looking at the results of the agricultural sector during the seven months of the war, we see that the point of no return to the commodity model has already been passed. What does this confirm? First of all, everyone understood that agricultural producers, farmers who concentrate on one or two grain and oil crops are very risky. And there should definitely be differentiation,” he says now.
Thus, according to Vysotskyi, the export of dairy products is increasing. According to the results of August, the export of dairy products showed a record figure for the last two years. Similar growth is expected and provided.
In addition, additional livestock of industrial pig farming, poultry farming, added the deputy minister. This is explained in advance by the cheapening of fodder, and the trend of development of animal husbandry continues in the future.
Investments are also directed to bioenergy, continued Vysotsky.
“Recently, auctions for the privatization of distilleries were held. The final bid price at the auctions was three to four times more than the starting price. And the distillery is, first of all, bioethanol, biofuel. In the understanding that it is more profitable for the sector to produce alternative sources of energy – bioethanol, biogas, biomethane – than to simply sell raw materials and then buy natural gas at exorbitant prices to dry corn,” he says.
In Ukraine, projects in this direction have already been launched – by the end of the year there will be a whole series. “These projects ensure the replacement of the import of energy resources, which is important for us, because in this way we balance the energy balance,” added Taras Vysotskyi.
Another direction, according to him, is deeper processing of grain crops: production of flour, ready-made pasta, amino acids, etc. Such projects have also already been started, but the result should be expected in two or three years.
As it happened, Ukraine launched the State Agrarian Register to support farmers. The first programs are intended for small farms that grow crops or cows.
