Almost 60 percent of the workers are commuters – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – Never before have so many employees commuted to work in Liechtenstein every day as in 2021: a total of 23,249. Most of them come from Switzerland. According to the Statistics Office, the number of companies has risen to almost 5,300.
In 2020, according to the Statistical Office (AS), the number of employees in Liechtenstein increased by 2.5 percent to a total of 41,352 employees. The full-time equivalents increased by 2.3 percent to 35,077.
“56.2 percent of the beneficiaries in Liechtenstein commute to their place of work from abroad, which is a new high,” continues the AS. 58.9 percent of the 23,249 commuters live in Switzerland, another 36.9 percent come from Austria and 4.2 percent commute to work in Liechtenstein from Germany or another country.
116 companies more than in the previous year
compared to the previous year, the number of companies will increase to 5295 in 2021, with 86 percent of the gross share being registered in the service sector. The industrial sector accounted for around 12 percent and the agricultural sector for a good 2 percent.
“A total of 43,948 jobs were recorded in Liechtenstein at the end of 2021,” said the AS. Developments over the past ten years show that the Unterland, with an increase of 2.7 percent, has seen greater growth than the Oberland with 1.5 percent.
