The war in Ukraine vs the elections in Bulgaria: Which news attracts more readers?
What news are people excited about and what do they like to read?
“The week started with the funeral of Elizabeth II and it is generating a lot of interest. Our readers followed the whole ceremony, but the most read things were the curiosities about the funeral itself,” they say the editor-in-chief of the news site dnes.bg Alexander Popov in the studio of “Bulgaria in the morning”.
He provides that on the site, several materials related to interesting details at the funeral caused serious interest and shared that the most read during the week was the announcement of the private military mobilization in Russia by Putin and his speech itself. This has caused a lot of reactions because many have seen his words as a nuclear threat. Among the most read news were also the reactions of the people in Russia and the protesters with over 1000 arrested.
“The next topic was about the fear of many men that they could be mobilized, respectively bought flights to Armenia and Dubai, tickets reached astronomical prices,” the editor-in-chief claimed to Bulgaria ON AIR.
He argues that the more widely read materials are related to analyst opinions because they are more interesting and diverse. According to him, the war continues to be a leading topic, as it is close to Bulgaria and directly affects every day of our lives.
“The direct impact of the war on our lives is the next thing that excites people the most, because prices in our country are rising, everything is explained by the war, there are questions that remain unclear for Bulgarians – especially about inflation,” Popov is categorical.
This memory that the topic of the election attracts lower interest compared to consumer topics and war. It turns out that entertainment topics are quite popular, and sports also attract a lot of attention.
