The most accurate cities in the world – Where are Athens-Thessaloniki-Patra-Heraklion located
The cities where the cost of living is higher than the average purchasing power of citizens include Athens, Patras, Heraklion of Crete and Thessaloniki are concentrated.
Using New York as a point of reference, Victor Dépré (hypntic.data) used 2022 data from Numbeo to compare cost of living and purchasing power of the average worker in 578 cities from around the world, illustrating his findings in an interactive graph.
Cities where the cost of living is higher than the average purchasing power of citizensare also included Athens, Patras, Heraklion of Crete and Thessaloniki are among them.
While New York is certainly a prime example of an “expensive” city, Numbeo’s data shows that there are some other cities that are more expensive.
In first place in this category is Hamilton, capital of Bermuda, where the cost of living exceeds that of New York by 50%. Life in Hamilton is so expensive, in part because Bermuda imports almost everything – from natural gas to groceries and clothing. As a result, product prices skyrocket.
Second on the list is Zurich, Switzerland, where costs are about 30% higher than New York. Food and drinks are particularly expensive in the area. According to Numbeo data, Zurich groceries are 58% more expensive than New York and restaurant prices are 55% higher. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the purchasing power of the average Zurich is also quite high, which compensates for the higher cost of living.
As for her Athena, the cost of living stands at 58.97, with the Greek capital in 304th place on the list. They are followed by Patras and Thessaloniki, in 306th and 307th place respectivelywhile the Heraklion of Crete is in 314th placewith an index of 57.08.
The term “purchasing power” is used to denote the number of goods and services that a person can buy with an ordinary salary in that city.
In Zurich, for example, the purchasing power of citizens stands at 129.8 – that is, the city’s residents are about 30% more powerful shoppers than New Yorkers. Even so, Zurich ranks 29th on the list, with all the previous ones not occupied by US cities, with the exception of the Swiss city of Zug (13th place with a competitive strength index of 143.4) and Erlangen ). ) of Germany (position 24, index 131.75).
Hamilton, again, which topped the cost of living list, has a purchasing power index of 79.43 (rank 248), which is 30% below New York.
