Application: Ask the right questions after applying
Your application has been sent and you are getting nervous because there is no response. When and how can you inquire about the status of your application?
Many companies send standardized acknowledgments of receipt, in which sometimes even the further course of the application process is explained. If you don’t get a response, you need to think carefully about your next steps. Even if waiting without any feedback is annoying: You should always remain objective and polite. Don’t take your anger out on the company about a non-response to your application, especially not on social media channels. Your anger may have subsided soon, but the internet never forgets…
Where’s the answer?
There can be many reasons why nobody has reported so far. It often takes companies a few weeks before they give feedback on applications because they are very busy or several people and departments are involved. But if you haven’t heard anything after several weeks, you should inquire about the status of your application.
You can also be at fault. Check again whether you have written to the correct address and whether your e-mail has arrived.
It is difficult to wait patiently, especially when applying for a particularly attractive apprenticeship position. But that’s exactly what you should do: give the company some time to process your application. As a rule, it takes at least two to three weeks and a maximum of up to six weeks for initial feedback. Depending on where you find yourself in the application process, it can of course also be faster. were you e.g. B. already at an interview, then you should get a quicker reaction.
Firm, but always polite
Make sure that you always remain polite and factual when asking about the application status. Whether you decide to call or email, prepare accordingly. When making a phone call, it is important to have the documents ready and to show understanding if the person you are talking to does not have time or does not know what you are talking about. Then ask for the right contact person and their extension. If you don’t have time, you can make an appointment for a phone call. If you send an e-mail asking questions about your application, be brief and refer back to previous contacts (application, interviews).
By asking, you show your interest and increase the chance of getting the apprenticeship or being invited to an interview. Also, you should never place all your hopes on an application. If you apply to several companies at the same time, your chances will of course increase.
