With countless lakes, villages and the high peaks of the Alps, it is no exaggeration to describe Switzerland as a paradise for hikers.
Some of the most epic trails criss-cross the country, from easy routes for beginners to grueling for pros.
Here are five amazing hiking trails in Switzerland to remember for your next trip.
Rigi Panorama Trail
The Rigi Panorama Trail is very doable as it is only seven kilometers long and mostly flat with the exception of a few steep sections.
Most of the trail is gravel and gravel but is fairly well maintained.
The route starts at the top of Rigi Kulm, so you start from a great height.
From train tracks to blooming valleys, there is a lot to see.
Engelbergertal – Brunniweg
The Engelbergertal offers enough paths to hike for a week.
Among them is the Brunni Trail which is very idyllic and great for exploring the valleys and flowering pastures of Switzerland.
It is a seven kilometer route and can be completed in around two to three hours.
During your hike you will also find various information boards with information about the surrounding plant species.
The Matterhorn is one of the highest peaks in the Swiss Alps.
It is moderately difficult, consists of five stages and can take around four to six hours per stage.
The trekking starts and ends in Zermatt and you have to trek far away from civilization.
You’ll cover a distance of about 46.5 km, with the highest point of the mountain being 3,260 meters above sea level.
If the Matterhorn looks intimidating, you might want to plan a hike up Mount Titlis as it’s relatively accessible.
This mountain offers both easy one-hour hikes and advanced hikes that can take you to 3,000 meters above sea level.
You will witness the alpine flowers and green meadows of Switzerland.
For shorter hikes, opt for the Trubsee circular trail (one hour) or the marmot trail (five hours).
Grindelwald – Faulhornweg
This is a moderately difficult tightrope walk that starts at Grinderwald and ends at the Faulhornweg.
The latter is at an altitude of 2,681 meters and can be reached in around eight to nine hours.
You pass Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, with the mammoth peaks of the Matterhorn, Schreckhorn and Eiger in the background.
