Toulouse: the strengthening of paid parking worries Toulouse traders
Since Wednesday, a second automated license plate reading car (LAPI) has been deployed in Toulouse. These vehicles, equipped with cameras, make it possible to identify paid parking violations.
Paid parking control is being strengthened in Toulouse, with the arrival, this Wednesday, of a second automated license plate reading car (LAPI). In the rue de la Colombette, where parking is paid, the news is not well received in the shops. “The public highway agents, whom we know well, warn us when we exceed the duration of the parking meter. We then add a few euros. The car with its cameras, it will not think and will impose a fine of 30 € directly”, regrets Laurent from the EVOVAP store.

“I prefer to deal with a human, with whom we can discuss, rather than a car that does not stop”, adds Quentin, of the pizzeria VesuBio. With the appearance of these cars, the arrangements between traders and agents will no longer be appropriate, fear the employees who will have to find new solutions. “I have been a trader for a short time. For now, I park on this street and pay. I will surely arrive earlier in the morning to park further away, in a free space, and walk to the shop,” explains Manon from the “Berht” thrift store.

If the merchants are reassembled, it is above all because they do not benefit from a reduction or a fixed price for parking. Parking then becomes very reserved for those who spend many a day in their shops. “I’m not against paying, but we should have a reduced price. In the street, I pay €60 a day,” adds Laurent, who has chosen to take out a subscription in the Saint-Aubin underground car park, at €100 a month.
