It’s a real blow for Saint-Pierre Lockthe new and promising cultural venue in the city center of Toulouse. Barely six months after its opening, the establishment “sees itself obliged to cease all its entertainment activity”, which was nevertheless the very essence of its project.
Since its opening in March 2022 (by Rémi Sanchez, ex-sound engineer of the Zebda group, and Laurent Nassiet, a former Bikini employee), L’Ecluse Saint-Pierre (with a room with 300 seats) stood out with an original and multidisciplinary program, and contributed in particular to bringing to life a local scene hard hit by the Covid crisis.
Sound insulation malfunctions
“Because of the design or construction of the building, sound insulation malfunctions seem to let emerge a sound level higher than the legal commitment of respect made by its designers or directors. The Écluse Saint-Pierre team is very sorry to have to postpone the cultural aspect of its project which remains, in the long term, its main objective and challenge”, indicates the management, who recalls having welcomed 104 artists, groups and companies since its opening, “in various styles ranging from classical music to electronic music, but also theatre, dance and conferences…”.
Faced with this case of force majeure, the 70 concerts, shows and performances scheduled between September and December 2022 have therefore all been cancelled.
Three concerts in acoustic mode maintained
If the “amplified” concerts are all cancelled, three events in “acoustic” mode are maintained:
– September 29 at 12:30 p.m. La Pause Musicale exceptionally in this place with MANDO DUO
– September 30 at 9 p.m. NARVALO SWING QUARTET
– October 14, DUNE D’HERMAN
“We need massive support”
The establishment is not closing its doors, however, since the bar and the restaurant remain open… “We need massive support in order to get through a difficult period which jeopardizes the reality of this establishment and the jobs that range from pair. At first, we hear you, quite simply, to stay or become customers of the restaurant and bar evenings which will remain open and which will take on a new aspect from the end of October, “says the L team again. ‘Ecluse Saint-Pierre, which adds:
“We are aware of the hope aroused and therefore of the disappointment linked to this announcement among the public, among cultural actors, artists, institutions…; we are also aware of the length of the road that awaits us before we can resume all of our original activities. We reaffirm here our determination to create this place of cultural life, by not giving up in the face of a supposed inevitable eviction of music, places of entertainment, life and sharing in the city center”.
