Alexander Isak was forced to leave the Swedish service with an injury as the bad luck from Newcastle United continues
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has left Sweden’s international camp after suffering a minor injury earlier this week. The 23-year-old celebrated his birthday on Wednesday by training away from his team-mates after a “little feeling”.
Sweden are preparing for their Nations League clash with Serbia on Saturday but will have to do without their star striker, with Isak now sent home to return to England.
“It is, of course, sad mainly for Alex but also for us as a team,” confirmed Sweden manager Janne Andersson on Thursday. “After speaking with both our medical team and Alex, it is the right decision for him to leave.

“I hope he is back as soon as possible. At the moment, we will not take any new players. Now the full focus is on the preparations against Serbia on Saturday.”
Isak’s setback will be a major concern for Newcastle, who have had terrible injury luck already this season. The former Real Sociedad striker has replaced the absent Callum Wilson in recent games and is yet to play alongside Allan Saint-Maximin either.
Wilson looks close to making a comeback after missing out on a squad place against Bournemouth on Saturday. However, Saint-Maximin may still be on the treatment table after the international break.
“He’s had a very slight setback with the physios,” Howe said of the Frenchman. “So, whether he’ll be fit after the international break or not is something unclear, but it’s certainly not long-term. But it’s not clear whether he’ll be fit for the next game [against Fulham on October 1] than.”
Newcastle will assess Isak before calling whether a Swede can face Fulham after the national team break. Eddie Howe will also be hopeful that Callum Wilson is back for the visit of the capital.
