The new hybrid train Blues a triple power supply (electric, battery and diesel) and manufactured by Hitachi Rail, which started trial runs in Sicily and whose debut with the passenger service is expected by the end of the year.
The Trenitalia Blues was presented in Berlin on the occasion of InnoTrans, the international exhibition for transport technologies where FS is present with the Group’s main innovations in the field of green mobility of people and goods. The debut of the Blues will take place in Sicily and Sardinia and subsequent deliveries will concern Tuscany, Lazio, Calabria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia in 2023. Thanks to its power, the Blues will come of reduce by 50% fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions compared to current diesel vehicles. A train with green DNA, 95% recyclable and with the possibility of entirely dedicating spaces to the little ones, which in fact marks a real revolution in regional rail transport in Italy.
“When will we begin to have the Blues on our lines – explained the managing director of FS Italiane Luigi Ferraris – this technologically very advanced train, sustainable and less energy-intensive than its predecessors will represent another fundamental means to make the journey of our passengers more and more comfortable and also to connect High Speed trains with the destinations served by regional trains. In addition to being hybrid, with triple power supply, it also has the predisposition to Wi-Fiin short, we are preparing to exploit the full fiber that we plan to upgrade and install along all 17,000 kilometers of our railway lines ”.
I 110 Blues incoming are part of an extensive project by renewal and relaunch of regional transport at national level from the investments of the new business plan of the Group which, with the Passenger Hub, aims to promote collective and integrated transport thanks to an offer of sustainable mobility, customized and able to meet the needs of commuters, tourists and those travel for work, study or leisure. The international debut of the new triple-fuel hybrid train was attended, among others, by Luigi Corradi and Andrew Barr, respectively CEO of Trenitalia and Hitachi Rail, who illustrated the characteristics of the dels, one of the most advanced trains in the world of sustainable transport. .
