Hoteliers are demanding energy-saving requirements from the federal government

Salzburg’s hoteliers are demanding specific requirements from the federal government on how they should save energy this year – as they already exist in Germany or Switzerland. There, foyers and corridors must remain cold. The Austrian Hoteliers’ Association will also set such guidelines so that guests know what to expect during their vacation.
The energy supply and the prices are also causing headaches for local hoteliers. Everyone thinks about where they can make savings in the company. But there are mandatory requirements, according to the President of the Austrian Hotel Association, Walter Veit from Obertauern (Pongau). “We know that we will make our contribution, the hotel industry wants to make its contribution. But: We would also like to know what it should look like.” Switzerland and Germany have already published it, but it is still missing in Austria. However, Veit has urged the responsible minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) several times.
Inform now to avoid complaints
General rules are important so that the guest who comes on winter vacation also knows what to expect in the hotels this year. But you had to tell him that when he booked. “If that happens afterwards, then he’ll surely say, I’d like to get a discount.” It doesn’t help the hoteliers much to know how the storage status for gas is and not what the effects are, says Veit.
Mid-range hotels with the biggest losses
As far as booking behavior is concerned in view of the rise in prices, you can already see that simpler quarters or luxury hotels are in demand. Hotels in the middle categories will probably have to struggle with the biggest losses, says Veit.
