The parks and sports fields of Lacroix Islandbetween the two shores of Rouen, will they become chargeable? This is the fear of some Rouennais with the arrival of a tree climbing. They are a little more than 200 to have signed a petition against its establishment.
Its implementation is planned for Jacques Chastellain Park, at the southern tip of the island, after the skating rink and the swimming pool. Where there are football and volleyball courts. “You will have to pay to access a site that is now free, two less football pitches and two less volleyball courts, one more green space with less free access”, denounce the residents.
“Access will remain free”
At the town hall of Rouen, this petition calls out because “there was never any question of making these spaces chargeable”, affirms Sarah Vauzelle, sports assistant, “access will remain free”. According to the elected official, the reception of the future tree climbing will be located at the level of the motorhome parking lot, after the ice rink and the swimming pool. The start of the course will be, logically, at the foot of the trees.
Sarah Vauzelle also advances, without giving more details, that “trees will be planted to provide more of these green spaces”.
In the spring of 2023, the delivery date of the tree climbing, Jacques-Chastellain Park regulars will therefore still be able to come and enjoy the facilities without spending a penny.
And for those who are worried about the amount of green space on the island, we must not forget that a new garden is to see the light of day there. The inhabitants had voted for the atmosphere they wanted to see there.
