a major company is preparing to invest in some Alpine Hungary
Since the 1990s, Switzerland has become one of Hungary’s most important economic partners. With the private investment of more than 4.5 billion euros by local companies, the Alpine state became the fifth investing country in Hungary in 2020.
Trade can also be said to be very lively between the two states: according to the data of the Swiss Federal Customs Office, its value reached about 2.7 billion Swiss francs last year
– listed the indicators of Swiss-Hungarian economic relations in a statement given to VG by the country’s ambassador in Budapest after an environmental protection event in the capital.
To be continued
Jean-Francois Paroz explained: Switzerland and Hungary will soon launch the second bilateral cooperation program in the framework of Switzerland’s contribution to European cohesion.
We offer quite a few opportunities for cooperation, and we hope that long-term partnerships will develop between the project participants.
said the diplomat.
He emphasized that Swiss companies are building particularly strong networks in the field of research. As an example, he mentioned that the cooperation between pharmaceutical companies there and Hungarian universities is getting wider: Roche, which is at the forefront of the world in biotechnology, and the giant healthcare company Novartis became strategic partners of Semmelweis University this year. The Swiss-Hungarian health forum to be held on November 8 is also intended to strengthen this cooperation, where politicians, businessmen and experts from the two countries can have a direct exchange of ideas, he added.
Nestlé is the flagship
85 of the Swiss companies are present in Hungary, where 32 thousand people work.
The largest investor among them is Nestlé, which also operates three factories in Hungary
and employs approximately 2,500 workers.
The pharmaceutical companies I mentioned also offer quite a few jobs, especially in service centers
– noted the ambassador, who is talking about the fact that Swiss companies make continuous investments and expand their business activities in Hungary.
At the same time, he predicted that some of their very significant projects are also under preparation.
Hungarian companies also have investments in Switzerland, but these companies are more active in trade than in production.
Sustainability is a priority
Jean-Francois Paroz also emphasized that sustainability is a very important topic for Swiss companies, and not only for the larger ones. Family-owned small and medium-sized enterprises clearly have green goals, and they are constantly working to reduce their emissions and carbon footprint not only at home, but also in Hungary, he explained.
In this regard, he also drew attention to the fact that
Swiss Days are held in Debrecen at the beginning of October,
where two excellent examples of environmental protection can be found. In order to be able to produce its own clean energy, Neopac, the producer of the tubes, built a solar park on the side of the factory building, and Sensirion, the digital microsensors and generator, equipped the latest installed plant with a modern technology that allows it to recover energy.
Insect hotel in NépligetWe spoke with the Swiss ambassador in Népliget at the event of the Swiss-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce called Swisscham Hungary’s Sustainability Picnic, which supports the tobacco company Philip Morris Hungary. With a symbolic project, an insect hotel placed in Népliget, the chamber tried to draw attention not only to the importance of environmental protection, but also to the importance of preserving the diverse ecosystem. The picnic was a forerunner of the campaign for a Smoke-Free City, which will be launched in the fall, the aim of which is to show that a lot can be done to protect the environment in everyday life, in city squares and in homes. |
