Processes – Berlin – brother-in-law attacked out of revenge? Accused admits shots – Panorama
Berlin (dpa / bb) – After a 37-year-old was shot in Berlin-Spandau, the trial against a brother-in-law of the victim began on Tuesday. The public prosecutor assumes that the accused wanted to avenge the separation of the 37-year-old from his sister and restore the “family members” with the alleged attack. The charge is attempted murder. The 36-year-old accused told the Berlin district court on Tuesday that he was the person who shot. He very much regrets his behavior. He will provide further information at a later date.
The accused, who is a Turkish citizen, is said to have attacked his brother-in-law, who had moved out of the family home after eight years of marriage, on January 14 this year. According to the indictment, he followed the man on the street and then suddenly shot him at least twice in the back with a pistol. The 36-year-old then gave himself up to the victim and fired more bullets. He hit the 37-year-old in the pelvis, stomach and leg area.
Doctors found five bullet holes in the 37-year-old. The car mechatronics was the first witness in the process to describe that he had been treated in the hospital for a week. To this day he is dealing with the consequences of a leg injury. He and the accused have known each other since childhood. He was already certain at the scene of the crime that the masked shooter was his former friend. After the first shots, he felt a “dull feeling” in his back. There was then a short scuffle and more shots.
The witness further said that he no longer wanted to continue the marriage with the defendant’s sister. “There were threats,” said the 37-year-old. He had sought an amicable agreement on how to deal with their two children, “but no consensus was found”. The 37-year-old is said to have reported to the police that his brother-in-law had told him: “My whole family blames me because I gave my sister into your hands.” The trial will be on September 30th.
