The Deputy Governor of Chania, Mr. Nikos Kalogeri, was visited today, Monday, September 19, 2022, by the Chargé d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Athens, and Maria Olson, accompanied by the Commander of the American Fleet Souda, Captain Mr. Odin Klug, the Consul General of the American Embassy in Athens, Mr. Benjamin Ousley Naseman, the assistant to the Naval Attaché of the Embassy, Captain Chris Lepore, and the Protocol and Public Relations Officer of the Naval Facility, Souda and Efi Papadakis.
The Charge d’Affaires stated that this is her 3rd visit to Chania, admiring the beauty, history and culture of the place, as well as its excellent food products. The Consul General mentioned the good infrastructure and the impressive presence of tourists in our city, and the Vice-Regional Governor underlined that the primary sector and tourism in Crete are continuously developing sectors that decisively support our development.
The discussion then turned to Greek-American relations, and Ms. Olson emphasized how important good bilateral relations and good cooperation are between our two countries. Mr. Kalogeris confirmed the spectacular improvement of relations between the two peoples in recent years, which has made the operation of the American Base acceptable to the majority of the local community, since it not only contributes to the local economy but also contributes to the security of the country in general .
