Start of the trial of the robbery of the Luxembourg clock industry
The heist a few years ago was literally worthy of a movie. The trial opens today before the Assizes of Lyon.
A booty of a million euros
The heist a few years ago was literally worthy of a movie. The trial opens today before the Assizes of Lyon.
It was March 20, 2018, a Tuesday, around 11:15 a.m. That day, in the luxurious Goeres jewelry-watch store located in the center of Luxembourg, a commando is preparing to do the heist of the century.
Made up as elderly people, several individuals enter the establishment armed, selling Rolex and Patek Philippe watches, the price of which generally varies between 5,000 and more than 80,000 euros each. The heist happens in a fraction of a second. One of the two armed robbers, however, injured one of the jewelry store employees with a taser.
With loot valued at around one million euros, the two robbers then smoke the leak manu militari. They first stop behind a house on Boulevard Charles Marx to get rid of their car. As we explain to you during the facts, they had sprinkled the interior of the vehicle, registered in the French department of the Rhône, with a fire extinguisher in the but to erase their traces. The plan was therefore millimetered and the authors prepared.

The latter then joined accomplices in another vehicle with the aim of crossing the border and leaving the country. The last ones seemed to have been made for the group of gangsters, these having managed to reach the Lyon region without a hitch. It was without counting on a size addict. Informed by their Luxembourg colleagues, the Lyon anti-gang police had installed a roadblock at the Villefranche-Limas toll barrier.
A spectacular chase
From there, an intense and spectacular chase begins between the criminals and the police. Numerous bursts of automatic weapon fire are exchanged between the two camps. The criminals finally managed to flee a few kilometers further to take refuge in a suburban area of Arnas, about thirty kilometers from Lyon.
There, they finally took a family hostage. Questioned at the time, the mother of the family had explained to our colleagues of France 3 Rhone-Alpes that the criminals were “relatively respectful” and “not very aggressive”. The hostage-taking and the escape of the fugitives finally come to an end in the middle of the night after the intervention of a special police unit.
this spectacular file Since then had not been talked about much, except for an escape attempt by one of the robbers and where he had been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
9 individuals will appear
But this Monday begins the trial of the Luxembourg case before the Assize Court of Lyon. This is announced by our colleagues from Lyonmag. The latter also speak of a total loot carried away by this time by two million euros.
We therefore learn that it will be a total of 9 people who will appear before the assizes. The two robbers in their thirties, from Rilleux-la-Pape, in the suburbs of Lyon, are being prosecuted for “theft in an organized gang, attempted murder of a person in charge of public authority, arrest, kidnapping and kidnapping or arbitrary detention of hostages”. The trial is expected to last ten days.
