The Heritage Days, these September 17 and 18, 2022, are an opportunity to (re)discover the exceptional monuments of Rouen, a city rich in history. The opportunity also to ask a question not so stupid: how many historical monuments does the Norman capital have? Some even think that it is the city in France that has the most. True or false ?
Rouen, sixth city of France in number of monuments
In total, according to the town hall, on account in Rouen 228 historical monuments. This puts us in sixth place among the richest French cities in terms of registered or classified monuments, behind Paris, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Nancy and Lyon.
Among these 228 monuments, 44 are classified in whole or in part. Indeed, a monument can be either registered, when it represents a remarkable regional interest, or classified, when its interest is national. This gives him a maximum level of protection.
Among the listed monuments, we find the Saint-Ouen abbey, the Saint-Maclou aster, the building of the Tourist Office, the Saint-Maclou church, the courthouse, the cathedral and the Gros horloge (obviously !).
On the other hand, none of these monuments is registered with the world heritage of Unesco. But Rouen can console itself by remembering that it is the only French city labeled Unesco Creative City for its gastronomy in 2021. Waiting to be European Capital of Culture in 2028?
