Juul Franssen has just announced that she will stop as a top judoka. Made in April of this year in consultation with her team, focus in the postoly known year would put on the start of her studies. In this period she has had the opportunity to even get off the express train of top sport judo, they come to the decision to stop.
Franssen, active in the -63 kilograms, won bronze at the European Championships (2020) and is a two-time World Cup bronze medalist (2018,2019). She also won the European title for cadets, juniors and under23s. They are also multiple Grand Slam, Grand Prix and World Cup winners. She concluded her top sport career with a fifth place at her debut at the Olympic Games.
Juul herself says about her decision to quit:
“As a little girl I dreamed of participating in the Olympics. I am interested in the heroes of the past. I never expected these dreams to take place. I have been one of the very best judokas in the world in my weight class for years. A beautiful moment to say goodbye.
Thanks to all those years of top sport I have learned that your body is capable of so much more than we think. I am certainly convinced that all these experiences help me to inspire not only myself but also others in my next monies, both on and off the judo mat.’
Jean-Paul Bell, coach of Juul Franssen, indicates that it was an honor and privilege to be part of Juul’s Judo career. ”It was a great pleasure and privilege to be part of Juul’s judo journey. We shared many highs and lows and successes along the way, but my standout moment was the 2018 World Cup bronze medal (red: World Championship), which marked a breakthrough in our performance.
